My Journey
rn
Hello all, I thought I’d share a little of my history so when I write about my journey back to (better than) what I used to be, it will make more sense. I didn’t always struggle with my weight. I used to be about a size 8 - 10. I used to teach aerobics in my church and on the Base when I was in the military. rn
rn
Things changed 10 years ago when I gained 70 pounds while pregnant with my first daughter. She was only 6 lbs, 13 oz when she was born, so accounting for the other typical pregnancy stuff, I gained about 50 lbs of “extra” back then. I lost it, though. By the time we were celebrating her first birthday, I was 2 lbs lighter than the year before. rn
rn
I don’t really know how much weight I gained with my 2nd daughter 2 years later. It was probably about the same and it took me a little longer to lose it.
The problem was, those products gave me the shakes and migraines because of the chemicals. I also got very little quality sleep. I was working a part time job in the middle of the night, getting home at 2 and getting up at 5:30 to get to the gym by 6 so I could get home by 7:15 so my DH could leave for work at 7:30. (What a mouthful!) rn
rn
Then, it happened. While at my middle-of-the-night job, a 30 lb box fell on my head from about 10 ft above me and messed up my work out program “just a little bit.” It was several months before I could work out again the way I was supposed to, but by that time my schedule was CRAZY and I was no longer taking those supplements so my weight started to climb again. In October, 2003 (5 years after daughter #2) I gave birth to my 3rd beautiful daughter and I’ve been a “Big Mama” ever since.

The weight never depressed me or anything, just ticked me off when I tried to go shopping - hence, the “Body for Life Challenge.” The hardest part about the past 10 years was the number of miscarriages I suffered. I’d have a baby, have a miscarriage… have a baby, have three miscarriages… have an another baby, have two more miscarriages. I gotta tell ya: that really sucked!

So now here I am 13 pounds and 1 size closer to my target weight. The greatest thing about it is this time I’m able to do it in a LOT less time. I mean, it took me 90 days to lose 18 lbs doing “Body for Life,” working out 5-6 days a week. But this time, I lost 8 pounds in 9 the first days, I only started this system a month ago and have hardly worked out at all. It’s not like I don’t want to work out, it’s just that we closed on a house the same day I started and it’s been very busy moving and getting settled. Now I really wish I had been exercising all along. Just to think of how much further along I’d be…
Oh well, can’t unscramble eggs, right?

Well, at least I feel better (physically) than I ever felt before. Aside from my emotional days when it comes to babies,
I have no struggles. I have a WONDERFUL family and we even got a dog! He’s a cutie, too… and so affectionate! He’s a little white toy dog called a Bichon Frise and we named him Frodo… you know, like, the Hobbit.

I am SOOOO looking forward to reaching my fitness goals, hopefully by my birthday, which is 5 September. I will have to get new clothes here pretty soon, ’cause my clothes are starting to hang off of me a bit… but that’s a good problem to have, right?

Thank you to all who are willing to share their stories and encourage each other on this site.

Oh, and by the way, I resumed my alternating Tae Bo and Pilates routine last night. Today is Pilates Day.

rn
I also like Kathy Smith’s workouts and Tamilee Webb… but without a doubt, Tae Bo is my favorite!
